Abstract

Hypersingular boundary integral equations have been found useful in several physi- cal problems and their use is becoming widespread amongst boundary element re- searchers. The forms of these types of equations from which computations ensue are varied, but greatly influences the accuracy and efficiency of the numerical solution. The local approach, which involves either direct quadrature of finite part integrals or an explicit expansion of the kernels to separate out the divergent parts before inte- gration, is known to be computationally sensitive and difficult to implement on para- metric elements. Global integration processes have been devised to avoid the direct calculation of these finite pan integrals but carry the burden of integration of addi- tional, nonsingular terms. The basi
