Abstract

Coupling of FEM and BEM for the analysis of a structure-acoustic-cavity system C.-M. Lee*, L.H. Royster\ R.D. Ciskowski" "Kia Motors Corporation, Seoul, Korea ^North Carolina State University, Raleigh, Technical Computing, Boston, 1 Introduction In the noise and vibration control area, the need to be able to analyze a cou- pled structure and acoustic-cavity is common. Therefore, many attempts have been made to solve this kind of problem analytically and numerically. However, because of the limitations of the analytical solution for the structure-acoustic interaction problem, a numerical approximation approach for this type of prob- lem is typically needed. With the recent advances in numerical techniques, var- ious numerical discretization methods for obtaining approximate solutions are available to solve complex coupled structure-acoustic-cavity problems. One such technique is the Finite Element Method (FEM). During the 1970s, the applica- tion of F
