ABSTRACT
Surface laser upgrading techniques involving laser melting is becoming
increasingly significant in industry.
Such process generally aims at im-
proving the surface properties, especially by enhancing the hardness of the
surface layer, its resistance to wear and corrosion and/or its property gradi-
ents.
Temperature rise inside the material and surface cooling rate are two
important factors which affect the surface properties significantly.
Conse-
quently, investigation into heat transfer mechanism during laser melting
process becomes necessary for surface upgrading.
