Abstract

Improvement of quadrature for nearly singular integrals in 3D-BEM K. Hayami* & H. Matsumoto* Tokyo 113, Japan Co. Tokyo, Japan Abstract Modifications of the previously proposed PART(Projection and Angular & Radial Transformation) method for nearly singular integrals arising in the three dimensional boundary element method are proposed. First, a ro- bust Newton method for finding the minimum source distance based on constrained nonlinear optimization is proposed. Next, the problem of pre- serving topological and metric invariance when approximately projecting the element, is overcome by a new unified method. Numerical experiments show that the proposed modifications make the PART method more robust and efficient. 1 Introduction In the boundary element method, integration governs the accuracy of the whole analysis and also consumes a large part of the computation time. In the three dimensional problem, the integrals can g
