Abstract

Keynote Address Inverse analysis by boundary element method S. Kobayashi Division of Global Environment Engineering, Kyoto University, Kyoto 606, Japan ABSTRACT The boundary element method is very powerful for inverse analysis of boundary determination type. We discuss elastodynamic inverse analysis applied to crack determination, in which we use a variat- ional boundary element method in conjunction with nonlinear programming for minimizing an objective function expressed by the sum of the squared deviations from the observed data to the calculated values with temporarily assumed boundary parameters. We show some typical example cracks determined by use of the proposed technique devised in both frequency and time domains. INTRODUCTION Inverse problems are defined so as to find out input data and/or functions of the problems concerned by use of observed output data. The term function implies the role of the governing equation, bo
